Residents of Rockville are known to seek the outdoors when the sun makes its appearance on the horizon. It is no small wonder that Rockville boasts some of the best outdoor locations for young and old to get rid of some excess energy and enjoy themselves. These are some of the best outdoor play locations in the heart of Montgomery County.
College Gardens Park
When beauty and function combine, the result is a park that boasts both spaces for relaxation and recreation. College Gardens Park is the ideal location for those who aren’t completely satisfied with just a place to have a picnic. Bring along a basketball to play one-on-one at the basketball court or mitts and a baseball to play catch on the multi-use field. The park offers so much more, such as a Mutt Mitt station, drinking fountains, park benches, shelters and gazebos, and a stunning pond for scenic captures.
Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park
This park is just next to the Rockville Dog Park which means that all members of the family have the opportunity to enjoy a great day out, even the four-legged ones. Pristinely maintained, the park has aesthetic appeal to those who merely want to spend the day taking photos or stills for art pieces.
It also offers activity areas such as the outdoor fitness equipment and a multi-use field. There is a well-maintained playground for children and a Mutt Mitt station. Tennis and basketball courts provide further action and those who wish to have a have a picnic can make use of the grill area, park benches, and shelters.
Dawson Farm Park
Nature lovers will delight in a visit to Dawson Farm Park, as it offers stunning nature trails that will rival some of the larger national parks. The park also offers picnic tables, shelter, and benches. Clear paths make it easy to get from one side of the park to the other. For the little ones, there is a state-of-the-art playground. The drawing card to this location is, however, the Urban Wildlife Sanctuary that provides both education and a much-needed service in the community.
Thomas Farm Community Center
The ideal location for those who wish to improve or maintain their fitness levels while having fun is located in Fallsgrove Drive. The center features a full playground for children that will challenge both their minds and bodies. Small children between the ages of 2 to 5 also have access to a soft play area to ensure their safety and fun. A basketball court and ping pong room are two of the favorites, and the fitness room boasts brand new cardio and strength-training equipment. The center also offers community classes which are a boost for social encounters.
A breath of fresh air is sometimes enough to get through a tough day and in Rockville the parks offer this and more. Easy strolls are available on pathways while those who seek something a little more physical have what they need within their local communities. Furthermore, access to these facilities are at low cost or no cost at all.
