Weird Roadside Attractions in MarylandWhen you are out and about in Maryland, you might want to look out for unusual sights and attractions that are not listed on travel websites and directories. These astonishing Maryland roadside attractions are worth the trip, and your Facebook friends will be truly amazed by the shots you took of them.

1. Enchanted Forest and Fairy Tale Park on Clark’s Elioak Farm

This farm offers loads of fun for little ones and big kids alike. Next to Road 108, just off Highway 29, it has hay rides, animal petting facilities, and a fantastic maze to get lost in. Kids can climb onto old tractors, explore nursery book cottages, and ride on ponies. It’s the perfect stop for families on a road trip. Meet Silly Mother Goose and take a ride on the little train running through the enchanted forest. Find the farm and theme park at 10500 Clarksville Pike, Ellicott City, MD 21042.

2. God’s Ark of Safety in Frostburg

Probably the only real size replica of Noah’s Ark is found on the side of the road leading to Frostburg. While you might think that the skeleton made of steel and concrete looks nothing like an ark, it is a reminder by the interstate that the next flood might happen any time. The building started in 1976, and nobody knows whether the ark will be ready by the time we might need it again. To find this attraction, put the following address in your navigation system: 18606 Cherry Lane, Frostburg, MD 21532.

3. Huge Transformers by Lawyer’s Winterbrook Farm, Thurmont

This farm is built around fun activities, and advertises its offers with two giant Transformers statues on the side of the road. You will also find two car wrecks next to each statue, as if Transformers had something to do with their destruction. Stop by if you have time, or just take a selfie. Find Lawyer’s Farm at 13001 Creagerstown Rd., Thurmont, MD 2178.

4. National Vigilance Park, Fort Meade

This park houses both the National Vigilance Park and the Aerial Reconnaissance Memorial. Just off Highway 32, you will find airplanes from the Cold War era, and the C-130 aircraft, the same plane that was downed in 1958 by the Soviets after entering the Armenian airspace. The park is next to the big NSA center, on Colony Road, Fort Meade, MD.

5. The Cider Barrel, Germantown

The giant barrel is – unfortunately – empty, but is still on display at the same place where you could purchase fresh local cider decades ago. Take a photo of the huge attraction when you are near 20410 N. Frederick Rd., Germantown, MD 20876.

Spotting great sights in Maryland is not hard. Go on a road trip of exploring unusual places, pose next to giant statues or airplanes. Next time you hit the road, ask the kids to spot more weird places, to keep them entertained. Who said highway driving has to be boring?
